Koalas spend most of their time in the treetops and depend almost entirely on eucalypt leaves for food. Their long, muscular limbs and grasping paws make them expert climbers, while their dense, waterproof fur protects them from the elements. Koalas are listed as endangered. They lead solitary lives within home ranges of up to three hectares. Their low-nutrient diet provides little energy, and a koala usually rests or sleeps for up to 20 out of every 24 hours. These iconic Australians are under significant threat due to the loss of habitat. Fortunately, we have these endearing animals in the trees around our home.
