The white tern (Gygis alba) is a small seabird with unique nesting behavior. They lay their eggs on thin branches without creating a traditional nest, which reduces the risk of nest parasites. However, this also means that their eggs and chicks are particularly vulnerable to strong winds. Despite this challenge, these birds show remarkable resilience by quickly relaying their eggs if lost. This delicate and striking white bird can be seen against the azure blue skies of subtropical and tropical Northeast Australia, with breeding communities on North Cocus, Lord Howe, and Norfolk Islands.
