Coral Cod live in caves or under ledges and are particularly active during the late afternoon and early morning, feeding as a lurking ambush predator. Over 80% of its diet consists of small fish that are approached quietly and then, in a sudden rush, devoured in a single gulp. They often live in groups, led by a male who protects their territory and mates with up to 12 females. Interestingly, the Coral Cod can change from female to male.
