Uniquely positioned at the mouth of the River Derwent and backed by glorious Mount Wellington, Hobart is an incredibly photogenic town. Amid British concerns over the presence of French explorers, the first European settlement in Hobart began in 1803 as a military camp at Risdon Cove on the eastern shores of the Derwent River.
