I recently had a fantastic encounter with a Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo. This unique and fascinating creature resides in the highland rainforests between Mt Spurgeon and the Cardwell Range in Queensland. The image captured the agility and grace of this marsupial, even as it tried to soothe an itchy tail.

Observing these tree kangaroos in their natural habitat is an awe-inspiring experience. They are skilled at camouflaging themselves, are generally shy, and tend to stay high up in the canopy, making it challenging to spot them. The local Indigenous people refer to them as Boongarry, Mabi, or Maple.
