The Eastern Quoll once occupied a wide range from eastern New South Wales to southeast South Australia, but it experienced a rapid decline at the beginning of the 20th century and is now confined to Tasmania. Although believed extinct on the mainland, reported sightings of this quoll have recently resurfaced in NSW. It occupies diverse habitats, including coastal heath, dry eucalypt forests, scrublands, and farmlands.
