The Short-beaked Echidna is a fascinating creature with an ancient lineage dating back between 20 and 50 million years. They evolved from a platypus-like monotreme and have adapted to life on land, even though they are excellent swimmers. These adorable creatures move slowly with a waddle-like walk and are often spotted crossing the roads in some parts of Australia. Their strong claws tear away the soil effortlessly, revealing an array of small invertebrate delights. Although slow-moving, they can be challenging due to their sensitivity when approached in the wild.
