Taking its name from the original Banyjima word for the Hamersley Ranges, Karijini National Park is the second-largest and arguably the most surprising national park in Western Australia. Its incredible steep, shaded gorges and cool watercourses defy its location in one of Australia’s hottest regions, although winter nights can be cold and frosty. After the rain, a botanist’s dream of wildflowers flourishes across Karijini, softening the ruddy terrain.
