Situated in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, the Bungle Bungle Range is the landform that is a significant component of the Purnululu National Park. The distinctive beehive-shaped towers are made of sandstones and conglomerates. These sedimentary formations were deposited into the Red Basin 375 to 350 million years ago when active faults altered the landscape. The combined effects of wind from the Tanami Desert and rainfall over millions of years shaped the domes. But the relentless force of weathering, over millions of years, truly sculpted this marvel. Water seeps into the rock, and at night, it expands as it gets colder. This makes small cracks that eventually wear out the stone, a testament to the power of nature.
