With a bow and a burst of colour, the male rose-crowned fruit dove performs his courtship dance—puffing his chest, cooing softly, and displaying his brilliance in a tender ritual of devotion.
The Rose-crowned fruit dove (Ptilinopus regina) is a small bird that expertly camouflages itself among rainforest foliage while foraging for ripe fruit, especially figs. They breed in areas with dense vine growth, and their courting display includes bowing and showing off their pink caps accompanied by a distinctive loud 'hookcoo' call that transitions into a rapid 'coocoocoocoocoo.' We're fortunate to have them on our bush block.
