In 1984, while on a freelance photography assignment in the Simpson Desert, I encountered a curious black dingo. I lay on the ground as though faking death, and after about 20 minutes, the animal approached me and filled my camera frame. The encounter was in an isolated area, which would most likely have been the animal's first encounter with a car or human. Dingoes can be seen in various colours, from black to black, tan to white, and the familiar golden yellow.
