The flannel flower, scientifically known as Actinotus helianthi, is a native plant found in sandstone heathland in coastal New South Wales and Queensland. It is frequently seen around the Sydney basin in spring. Despite its appearance, it belongs not to the daisy family but to the Apiaceae family. The plant can reach up to 50 cm in height and is covered in soft hair. It is commonly found in the Sydney basin during spring. Flannel flowers, with their rich history in art and imagery since colonial times, serve as the emblem of the Sydney Bush Walkers' Club, which was established in 1927, connecting us to the past.
