The Mossman River originates under Devil's Thumb on the Mount Carbine Tableland in the Great Dividing Range. It flows easterly through a deeply incised valley in the Mount Lewis Forest Reserve and then passes through the Mossman Gorge, part of the Daintree National Park. This area is recognised as a World Heritage Area and is considered by many as the most visually stunning gorge and forest in Australia. It's important to note that the Mossman Gorge and surrounding forests are the traditional country of the Kuku Yalanji people.
