The rainbow lorikeet is a colourful parrot species found in Australia. It is commonly seen along the eastern coast, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Rainbow lorikeets feed on fruit, pollen, and nectar and have a specialized tongue for this diet. They nest in hollows of tall trees and have a clutch size of one to three eggs, which are incubated for around 25 days. One of their unique traits is their territorial behaviour, as they are primarily monogamous and defend their feeding and nesting areas which may form small 'gangs' working together aggressively to drive other birds from food-rich feeding sites.
