Reaching an average length of 1.5 metres, the yellow-spotted monitor roams much of Australia's tropical and central-western arid lands. Swaggering across their home ranges, goannas (or monitor lizards as they are correctly termed) project a wonderful sense of belonging. I always get excited when I encounter these beautiful creatures in the wild.
