As the sun sets over the vast tropical floodplains of Australia's far north, a beautiful sight unfolds. Herons of several species and spoonbills, who were scattered throughout the area during the day, start to gather in a backwater. They huddle together, taking shelter and warmth in each other's company. However, they are not alone. Black kites keep a watchful eye on them, waiting for an opportunity to snatch any prey that the waders may capture.
