Colourful Defenders BI199036
The rainbow lorikeet is a vibrant, noisy parrot species native to Australia, frequently heard before seen found along the eastern coastline, stretching from northern Queensland to South Australia. Their diet consists mainly of fruit, pollen, and nectar, which they gather with their specialized brush-tipped tongues. They typically nest in the hollows of tall trees, laying clutches of one to three eggs incubated for about 25 days. Notably, rainbow lorikeets exhibit excessive territorial behaviour. They are primarily monogamous and fiercely defend their feeding and nesting areas, sometimes forming small, aggressive 'gangs' that work together to drive off other birds from food-abundant sites.
