The boxing kangaroo is a national symbol of Australia, frequently seen in popular culture. The primary purpose for what we describe as ‘boxing’, is that male kangaroos use their fighting skills to exert dominance over rivals; all kangaroo mobs have an alpha male that dominates primarily for reproductive control. As the dominant male ages, a younger rival will raise eventually ‘fight to win’ exerting new dominance over the mob; this behaviour is common throughout the animal world.
