Geologists believe that these Perry Sandhills in south-west New South Wales originated after the last Ice Age, 40,000 years ago. Wind erosion over thousands of years has created this large dune system. Skeletal remains of giant mega-fauna such as kangaroos, lions, emus and wombats have been found in this area, replicas of which can be seen in the local Pioneer Museum.
