I wake up most mornings to the distinctive ‘whip-crack’ call of the eastern whipbird. The typical Whipbird call consists of an introductory (lead) note, a whipcrack (whip call), and a response (tail call). This delightful bird is found in wet temperate forests including both rainforests and wet sclerophyll forests, generally near water. It occurs from eastern Victoria north through to central Queensland.
