To the east of Kakadu the Arnhem Escarpment acts as a rain catchment that feeds the many creeks the rivers, each of which empties into extensive flora and fauna rich floodplains. Depending on the seasons the floodplains may attract tens of thousands of waterbirds or every size and shape imaginable. Since the National Park’s creation in the early 80’s, I have revisited these magical wild places and always come away enriched by the experience.
